The Romany Cricket Club was started over a hundred years ago. As it has been throughout its history, the club is nomadic, playing friendly cricket in Yorkshire and beyond.
We play approximately 25 games a year, against a variety of clubs. The season's fixtures usually include games in the classic village green setting of Crakehall in the Yorkshire Dales and in the rural idyll of Yapham in the Yorkshire Wolds. We like playing against the backdrop of country houses, such as Thorp Perrow (with its famous arboretum) and Swinton Park (now a luxury country house hotel). Not entirely by coincidence, some are in places renowned for the local pub, such as The Chequers at Ledsham – though don’t ask why we play them on a Sunday, when the pub is closed.
Most games are at weekends (usually on Sundays). The club also plays occasional games on weekdays, most notably a Friday afternoon game as part of the Bolton Percy cricket festival. Every second year, the club tours West Sussex, basing itself in Chichester (where we play in the beautiful setting of the Priory Park).
Whatever your preferences, you would doubtless enjoy one of the best fixture lists of its kind in the county.
